  Kwach Academy Sports

sports   Kwach Academy currently operates four well established sport teams (football, netball, tag rugby and athletics). These teams provide the children with opportunities to participate in many of the sports that we take for granted. The Academy has access to experienced coaches who spend many hours passing their skills and experiences to the children.

As Kwach Academy’s sports programme expands and sources much needed funds, we will be adding new sports such as tennis. We hope that by next year sufficient funds will have been raised to provide additional coaching in tennis, rugby, cricket and other sports.

In support of this expansion, in addition to financial support, Kwach Academy would be very pleased to hear from volunteers with experience in these and other sports who may be interested in joining the project so we can help more children.
If you are able to help in any way, please contact Monique Wyatt. We will be delighted to work with you in assisting the children.

      Kwach Academy Cultural Dance

dance   Kwach Academy are available for booking for various events, please contact our Gulu’s office for more information

Cultural dances performed by the children include: Dingi Dingi, Ajere, Bwola and Larakaraka and many more.

At Kwach Academy, we have children who are full of enthusiasm, motivation, eagerness and determination to learn new skills everyday. Giving back to children the true Acholi cultural roots as our fore fathers have known it, is an alternative solution to the problems that the Acholi have encountered over the past 23 years of war. Some of the children grew up without knowing the enriched cultural roots. It’s now so important that children need to be educated that what they have seen and experienced in the Internally Displaced Persons Camps (IDP) is not the normal way of living that they were due to unfortunate events of fate.

Kwach Academy meets four times a week to practice Acholi traditional dance and singing. The workshop is open to children of all ages.

Kwach Academy is grateful to all the teachers who are passing valuable cultural experiences to the children, whose lives has been so much affected by the 23 years conflict in northern Uganda.

      Miss Acholi

dance   Miss Acholi is a cultural beauty pageant which empowers young women through promotion of education, culture, traditions and talents by addressing issues that are affecting young women in Northern Uganda today.

The event was established in 2007 as part of Kwach Academy fundraising mechanism to encourage further education in young women, self esteem and identity. Due to lack of sponsorship and funding, there are now many young women who have dropped out of education with no qualifications, jobs or prospect to make any difference to their lives, that of their family or community.

The Miss Acholi event starts around August each year with events held in the 4 Districts to choose three contestants from each of the four (4) districts, Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum and Gulu as well cultural groups to represent each of the districts. The final event takes place on the last Saturday before Christmas Proceeds from the Miss Acholi event goes towards training and further education for young women in northern Uganda.
